Benjamin School of the Arts

North Palm Beach, FL

This dynamic project involved the total renovation of a typical strip mall into a state-of-the-art Fine Arts Center. The Benjamin School acquired the property with the strip mall, located adjacent to the campus, to expand much needed classroom space for the Fine Arts Department. By using traditional detailing and a dramatic rotunda as a corner focal point, the once nearly vacant mall quickly became a signature building for the school.

The facilities incorporated into the design included a dance studio, band and chorus rooms, upper and lower school art labs with a shared kiln, computer and graphic arts rooms, and a photography dark room. A central interior corridor allowed the perimeter art studios to take full advantage of natural light. The interior furnishings and finishes utilized a bold primary color scheme to create a playful look for the students and provided a visual link between the varied functions.
