The design created by Song + Associates for this project is an artistic interpretation of space that will enhance the learning environment. The compact design uses varied heights in the structures and capitalizes on the volume of space and natural light. Visually and spatially, the curved design establishes the extension of a visual line to provide a secure environment for students and staff. The common connective curve of the structure & centrally located administration areas allows ease and ability to monitor students with no hiding areas.
Educational flexibility is provided in the compact modular design focusing on technology and the positive interaction between students and staff. At the heart of the school are the common areas in an open layout that provides for gathering and interaction in a supervised environment. In addition, the dining/multipurpose area has an enhanced hurricane protection area with attached kitchen facilities. Overall the architectural design maximizes space in an organized manner, provides an aesthetic environment and provides an economical solution for a middle school design.
