KAS Office Building

Location:

West Palm Beach, FL

The contemporary design of the signature office building exemplifies new urbanism. Strategic placement of the building on this small urban site captures the light for this environmentally sensitive building. The design inspiration came from the needs of the major tenant, an eye doctor. The north and south walls of the building have specially designed window ledges that surround and protect the windows much like an eyelid screens the eye from harmful rays. Serving as a natural energy source and a special architectural effect, the windows are accented in blue, an articulating device, as well as a response to the environment. A cheerful relief from the faces of the nearby buildings, its exact tone duplicates the sky. The challenge of providing sufficient parking on such a small site was solved by using the ground floor as the covered parking area. The plan is open to provide maximum natural light to the interior areas of the entire building. Once inside the taupe colored structure, the feeling is transitional with a porcelain tile floor leading to an elevator finished in black reveals. With low maintenance finishes for the common areas and clean, contemporary colors, the tenant spaces exemplify the design theme.
