The construction encompasses two areas, remodeling of the existing kitchen and a new two-story Environmental Research Center. The new food lab/kitchen used for a Culinary Arts Academy includes state-of-the-art cooking appliances including stainless steel hoods to act as exhaust fans to ventilate the kitchen when meals are being prepared and each hood comes equipped with a custom designed fire suppression system.

The second area of construction is a new Environmental Research Center which is geared towards establishing a student curriculum focused on the Everglades ecosystem. This program is a Magnet Engineering Curriculum which focuses on the South Florida Everglades Restoration Project. This addition includes specialized high school science classrooms, adjacent lab spaces, conference space and support areas designed to support pilot curriculum and new Educational Specifications. In particular, there are three specialized labs including a wetlands lab, a solar and alternative energy lab and a marine science lab.
