Located on a 19 acre wooded site in the Western Communities in the Village of Wellington, this 1981 pre-k thru 5th grade school consists of nine (9) individual classroom pod type buildings set along the tree preserve and four (4) free standing buildings (administration, art/ media, library and food service- dining) located around a central recessed court yard amphitheatre all connected by covered canopy walkways which divide the campus into two halves – North and South sides. The new design for Wellington Elementary is a complete replacement of the North side of this campus. The three new buildings (Administration, 2 story Classroom Building including a Pre-K and K-2 playground and Multipurpose Building consisting of a kitchen, cafeteria, stage and facility core utilities) are designed in the Florida vernacular style that will be compatible with the surrounding neighborhood. The existing administration building was renovated and converted to new classroom space. The new structures are placed in a “U” configuration connected by walkways for easier pedestrian circulation and visibility around the campus. The main parking lot and student drop off area were reconfigured to the new site plan, modifications were made to the existing bus loop and the re-locatable classrooms were removed.
